The Mining and Petroleum Environmental Research Group and the Yukon Ministry of Environment recognized that bears have intrinsic value and are important to the proper functioning of ecosystems. They also recognized that rapidly expanding industrial activity, particularly mineral exploration, oil and gas development and placer mining, can negatively affect bear populations
They also believe that it is possible to have a successful camp operation that can safely share the landscape with bears.
