Keep your distance, humans

Dear Humans,

You’ve probably seen me around. I’m the freshly abandoned bear cub that’s been wandering around Nesters, through Cut Yer Bars, down to Myrtle Philip Elementary School and the Emerald Forest. I’ve been munching on all the green plants and dandelions. Wherever the greens are, that’s where you’ll find me.

So far, I don’t seem to mind you humans. In fact I take little notice of you — except when you crowd around me, or hop the ditch to pose for a picture. I’m not always sure what to do, at least not yet. For now I’ll stop and stare at you. But soon I’ll be bigger.

What makes me even more spooked are those four-legged beasts that eye me with suspicion. They run around fast, and if they get any closer I think I might have to get up on my hind legs and give one of them a good swat for getting a little too close.

As I’ve been wandering through your backyard, I’m starting to sniff some tasty things… I can smell something good grilling away, and there appears to be secret food hidden away in black bags. I haven’t figured out how to get inside the big boxes that might be full of something good yet, but I’m trying.

Well, that’s about it. I’ll be around for a little longer I am sure, and might even grow up to be a big bear — if you leave me alone, and if I keep eating my greens, and don’t get into yours.

If you see me, do me a favour: report me to Bear Aware at (604) 905-4209. I like it here, and I want to keep it that way.
