Webcam offers peek inside den of rare B.C. bear while it hibernates

TERRACE, B.C. - People around the world can now go online to peek inside the den of a rare kermode bear in B.C. while the animal hibernates.

Stephanie Waymen of the town of Rosswood says her husband installed the camera after discovering the den last year while hiking in the backcountry.

She says after about a year of technical challenges, the couple finally managed to get the camera working and is live-streaming the video onto the Internet.

Waymen says they've named the bear Apollo.

The kermode is a member of the black bear family but has a recessive gene that causes its fur to appear white or cream coloured, and it's found only in B.C.'s north and central coast areas.
