Bear Smart Tip of the Month

Bear in snowBe aware of winter dens

Be aware of denning sites during your winter recreational activities. Bears that are disturbed from their dens may attempt to move, using up valuable fat reserves and perhaps risking their life or safety, especially if they have young cubs. If you stumble upon a den, leave the area immediately.

BEAR DEN CAM: See inside Lily's den as she prepares to give birth

Lily's Den CamDon't miss this incredibly unique opportunity to see inside a bear den in real time live. Dr. Lynn Rogers, who is one of GBS's Scientific Advisors, was able to install a camera at Lily's den. Lily is one of Roger's study subjects. She is three years old and very likely to be pregnant. Cubs are usually born in mid to late January. That means she could be giving birth any day now. View her right now and see if she's had her cubs yet. You'll learn that bears can be very active inside their dens, and are especially restless just before giving birth.
